Why Accountants Are In-Demand for Canada Skilled Worker Immigration

Canada is looking to plug crucial workforce gaps as its economy expands and skilled worker jobs become available. Through Express Entry, it is able to target the occupations that businesses are struggling to find through immigration.

Accountants are one of the key in-demand occupations.

The bigger the business, the more important the Accountant becomes, which is why this occupation is a high demand skilled worker position under the Canada immigration Express Entry System. An important part of the role is advising clients on taxation compliance, but overall it is about helping businesses and individuals manage their finances. A Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation has a strong history of steady employment in Canada and this is expected to continue.

What Does An Accountant Do?

An Accountant is the financial backbone of a business, preparing and examining financial records and making sure the right taxes are paid on time. While tax season is a busy time, an Accountant works in the background all year round. Accountants give perspective on how a business is running financially, ensuring it is running efficiently. Personal accountants do the same for individuals, aiming to improve their financial situation.

Qualifications

Accountancy roles vary, but generally the job will require a bachelor’s degree at the entry level. The degree can be in accountancy, economics, or in a broader subject such as business administration. Candidates are also advised to consider a master’s degree if they are to pursue managerial roles.

Experience is important at every stage of the journey, from internships to placements and formal employment.

In terms of licensing, the Canadian benchmark is the CPA, or Chartered Professional Accountant. For skilled worker immigrants, some will find the pathway to CPA status easier than others, with specific programs available to gain the Canada-recognized qualification.

Canada-Specific Requirements

As already mentioned, the Canadian benchmark is the CPA qualification. Our representatives can advise individual clients on how easy this is to obtain.
