What Does an Engineering Project Manager Do?
An Engineering Project Manager’s tasks include scheduling, planning and forecasting for some of the most technical aspects related to a project. They are responsible for ensuring team resources are allocated in the right areas, using their expertise to problem solve and ensure a project runs smoothly. Key areas include communicating with clients, agreeing timescales and costs, detailed planning, team selection, contractor negotiation, time management and progress reporting.
Qualifications
There is no specific set of qualifications for Engineering Project Management, although many do come to the role with undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Engineering or Project Management. However, a background in business, management, construction, science or technology could also help. Project managers often graduate from working on a specific project into management, meaning both qualifications and experience are important in equal measure. There are also many computer programs designed specifically for project management, so knowledge of these can also be important.
